Atlanta Harmony Celebration! has a lot to celebrate! With a wildly successful 10th Anniversary show and an unprecedented sweep of all the Area Contest awards, 2014 is shaping up to be a banner year for the women of AHC!. The best part is there's even more to come! Here's to everything we've accomplished so far and everything we have to look forward to in the year ahead!
Another Victory in Florida!
April 17-19 marked the start of the Harmony, Inc. competition season with an incredible contest in Jacksonville, FL. Area 6 was the first up to see who would go to Verona, NY for the International Contest, and for the second year in a row, Atlanta Harmony Celebration! took the gold with a soulful rendition of "If I Loved You" and an energetic performance of "I Want You, I Need You, I Love You!" Also we have three choruses that have qualified for Verona, comprising 75% of the area! Sisters of Sound made a splash by winning most improved! Congratulations to all ladies that sang!
MAKÉ also walked away with a fourth-straight Area title, and will represent Area 6 and AHC! in Verona! In other good news for quartets, we saw 15 quartets cross the contest stage! That's almost double from last year, and triple over the count two years ago. That's a fantastic showing, and we hope to see even more next year!
Historic Run in Louisville!
We have had a record-breaking year! Because of this, we decided to keep the magic going on into Louisville! We all had a blast, but when the day came to compete, we took the stage and sang our hearts out! That performance was good enough to break one more record for us: Top 10! We came in tenth at the 2014 Harmony, Inc. IC&C, good enough to win the Macintosh Award (Highest Scoring Small Chorus) for the second consecutive year! MAKÉ also had a terrific showing, placing 15th and earning the Accord Award for most improved quartet! Georgia Connection and Sisters of Sound represented Area 6 very well, placing 12th and 15th, respectively. Congratulations to New England Voices in Harmony for winning the chorus contest and Moonstruck for becoming the new Harmony Queens!
Atlanta Harmony Celebration! Area 6 Clean Sweep!
This year was the very first area victory for Atlanta Harmony Celebration!. Not content to just win, we set a new record for the highest scores ever received by a chorus at Area 6 AC&C! The full list of awards includes the First Place Chorus Award, the Aura Daye Award (for director of the first place chorus), the Barbara A. Kadel Memorial Award (for director of the chorus with the highest music score), and the new Pizzazz Award (for most improved presentation score) donated this year by the Hernando Hills Hi-lites. The scores received at AC&C were even higher than those at our standout performance on the international stage in Canada, and we're looking forward to even more signs of improvement at International Contest in Kentucky.
AHC! Quartets Steal the Show!
AHC! had an unprecedented THREE quartets compete at AC&C – that’s over half of the chorus! MAKE', Wild Fermatas, and Alegria all worked hard in preparation for the contest, and their scores reflected these efforts. Alegria had a fantastic debut, and MAKE' and Wild Fermatas both improved upon their previous year’s scores. MAKE' took home First Place in addition to the Dazzle Award for highest presentation score, the Sound Award for most improved, and a score that qualifies them for competition on the international stage in November. Congratulations to all the quartets who represented the chorus so beautifully!
